Poll #1432408 Distracted driving
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All
I'll admit to texting while driving, but I do not talk on the phone (I pull over or ignore the call). I shouldn't text while driving, it does distract me.
Edit to add: the "accident" I caused was body damage to a car while pulling out of a parking space in a garage. I was talking to Carl on the phone, didn't check behind me, and pulled right into a pillar. That was 5 or 6 years ago, and I haven't talked on the phone while driving ever since.

Do you talk on your phone while driving?
Do you text while driving?
Do you think doing either (or both) distracts you from driving?
Have you ever caused an accident while driving or texting?

Old photo. I really want to make these again.
Frank McCourt has passed away. He was one of my favorite authors.
Me: deja vu. Carl: i was just thinking that. Me: we've aligned our thinking. Carl: yeah like chicks w their periods. We've had a great day. I managed to get in some homework, including a practice quiz which I aced. Then we went to the farmer's market, exchanged a fishing pole (the tip disappeared between the time we took it to the checkout counter and when we took it out of the car), went to the dog park, and picked up lunch. I'm going to put in a few hours of studying, then we'll make burgers and watch Le Cercle Rouge.
Also holy crap I didn't post at all yesterday? That's strange. We had an awesome day yesterday too. Went to see Othello at the Intiman Theater, which was really good. Afterward, I whipped up some potato salad and a delicious flank steak with our friends and had a bunch of beer. Overall a really good weekend so far.

I forgot to make coffee this morning, so to wake up for class, I ran up 6 flights of stairs w/my 25lb backpack.
Now I'm eating a banana and drinking water. Pfft who needs energy drinks or sugary-"juice" drinks? Not me!

I have 5 of these sitting on my counter. They are vegan because I didn't have any eggs or butter and I am too lazy to walk 2 blocks to the store.
Girlie bit test results came back normal.
The R-COPE measures five main coping strategies defined as individual response tendencies to stressors: self-help, approach, accommodation, avoidance, and self-punishment. Self-help coping refers to the maintenance of one’s emotional well-being when under duress, and includes expressing and understanding emotions as well as seeking emotional and instrumental support from others. Approach coping represents problem solving activities that are directed at the source of the stress, and includes active planning and suppression of competing activities. Accommodation coping refers to accepting that the problem cannot be solved but can be reinterpreted in a positive manner, and includes understanding emotion, maintaining optimism, and goal replacement. Avoidance coping drives the person away from the problem, and includes disengagement, denial, and other-blame. Finally, self-punishment coping leads to self-rumination, self-blame, and a pessimistic outlook.
The interesting part of this is that I can place myself in different positions from different times of my life. Now I feel I mostly tackle stress in an approach or self-help way (depending on the situation), while 5 years ago I definitely engaged in a mixture of self-punishment.
You have no control over what the other guy does. You only have control over what you do. ~A. J. Kitt
Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not; it is the first lesson that ought to be learned; and however early a man's training begins, it is probably the last lesson that he learns thoroughly. ~Thomas H. Huxley

People don't want their lives fixed. Nobody wants their problems solved. Their dramas. Their distractions. Their stories resolved. Their messes cleaned up. Because what would they have left? Just the big scary unknown. ~Chuck Palahniuk

You gotta learn when to walk away.
Apparently our car has a known fuel pump regulator issue. We're right on target for replacing ours, and I just booked an appointment. We have less than 10,000 miles on the car. Research online has shown that people will replace theirs every 2-3 months on average, so I am less than thrilled with this. It likely doesn't mean the car will refuse to start when I need it most, but taking it in every few months is going to be annoying.
Otherwise, I love our little car.
